overprint: 重慶 (Chungking)
Note:
After Japan had occupied Nanking, the Chinese Government under
Chiang Kai-shek moved first to Wuhan and later to Chungking, which became the new capital of China..
Notes with the overprint of Chungking in cHinese characters appeared on the market, however, the most specialized catalog for bank notes of the Central Bank of China,
中央银行纸币图录 ("Illustrated Catalog of the Papermoney of the Central Bank of China") by Chen Juntian (陈俊钿), containing each and every known variety, this overprint is not listed. An enquiry with the author revealed that such overprint were never applied officially.
