serial # printed

35b

serial # typed
There are some known exceptions to the below explained coding rule. This concerns a number of notes that were provided with a serial # using a typewriter under primitive circumstances (e.g. "055905 UL EK").

Remark

6 digit serial # with 2 capital Block letters at lower left
● Double capital Block letters at upper right (without serial #)
● the first digit of the serial # is always "0"

The 1st Block letter
This note was issued with 10 different number ranges (one of 9.999 and nine of 10.000), - each range having its own specific and unique letter.
Therefore, 10 different letters were needed. The origin of these 10 letters is the Indonesian description of the note “AMPAT-RATUS-TEBUAN" (Four-hundred-sugarcane), because the note has a value of 400 Rupiah and shows a picture of a sugarcanes.
When the double letters are eliminated, it leaves 10 letters: "AMPTRUSEBN".
For the serial # ranges and the first Block letter the following "Huisman Table" for fixed relation between serial # and Block letters is applicable:

The 2nd and 4th Block letter
These letters have a fixed relationship, with the 2nd letter alphabetically one letter higher than the 4th letter.
(When the 2nd letter is an "A" then the 4th letter is a "Z".)
In order to prevent confusion, the letter "J" is omitted, and the combinations "JI" and "KJ" are not used, with "KI" substituted instead.
It is likely that the letter "Q" and the combinations "QP" and "RQ" were not used, and instead, the combination "RP" could have been used.
There are, however, no notes known with this combination,

The 3rd Block letter
The 3rd Block letter only exists in fixed combinations with the 1st letter.
However, in order not to teach and enhance knowledge of potential counterfeiters I will keep secret this
correlation.

Examples for notes which could be genuine:

007786 AG WF
Explanation:
1st Block necessarily letter "A", due to number range 000001-009999
● 2nd Block letter "G" (given), thus the 4th Block letter is an "F" due to the interaction between 2nd and 4th Block letter

046580 RK YI
Explanation:
● 1st Block necessarily letter "R", due to number range 040000-049999
● 2nd Block letter "K" (given), thus the 4th Block letter is an "I" due to the interaction between 2nd and 4th Block letter ("J" is to be skipped)

079931 EM UL
Explanation:

1st Block necessarily letter "E", due to number range 070000-079999
● 2nd Block letter "M" (given), thus the 4th Block letter is an "L" due to the interaction between 2nd and 4th Block letter

085048 BK NI
Explanation:

1st Block necessarily letter "B", due to number range 080000-089999
● 2nd Block letter "K" (given), thus the 4th Block letter is an "I" due to the interaction between 2nd and 4th Block letter
("J" is to be skipped)

There are many counterfeits of this note. Often these notes have serial numbers that do not match the secret code. Most forgeries occur with the combinations BK NI with serial # 07...., 09.... EK MD, MD FC, UL FC and UL NR.
Although some of these Block letter combinations match the secret code described, these notes mostly occur with serial numbers falling outside the specified ranges. In some cases the serial numbers do match with the ranges, but this should, however, be considered as pure coincidence.
