The original design featuring a steamship was rejected by the Bank of Russia, which preferred a sailing ship. The artist (Igor Krylkov) then substituted a new ship based on the first photograph he found of a large frigate, not knowing he was drawing an Argentinian ship that had never been to Arkhangelsk. |
